In memory of my darling husband, Craig Orr, who died three years ago today.
Perhaps if Death is kind, and there can be returning,
We will come back to earth some fragrant night,
And take these lanes to find the sea, and bending
Breathe the same honeysuckle, low and white.
We will come down at night to these resounding beaches
And the long gentle thunder of the sea,
Here for a single hour in the wide starlight
We shall be happy, for the dead are free
We will come back to earth some fragrant night,
And take these lanes to find the sea, and bending
Breathe the same honeysuckle, low and white.
We will come down at night to these resounding beaches
And the long gentle thunder of the sea,
Here for a single hour in the wide starlight
We shall be happy, for the dead are free

That was a lovely, simple memorial. I'm so sorry for your loss, I know you still miss him.
I hope today is a special day for you, filled with good memories.
So beautiful poem...I'm sorry for your loss.
*raises my glass* To Craig...may the bittersweet become sweeter.
Victoria, I am sooo... sorry for your loss! Wishing you the strength to deal with it.

I am so sorry, Victoria. Lovely words which brought a tear to my eye. Above the memory of his loss today I hope you remembered happier days of your time together.
*hugs* I haven't got the words, but know I am thinking of you xx
It's always so difficult knowing what to say, but I send you all my best wishes.
Here's a (big hug) from me and I'm so sorry it's a day late.
A beautiful poem.

Nothing to say. Absolutely nothing to say. Just sit here and think 'I hope you are ok'. And the children too. Three years is short and long all at the same time. Very odd.
What beautiful words...I've not read this poem before.Thank you for sharing them.
And so sorry to hear of your loss
Thanks so much, everyone, for your lovely comments. (Petoskystone, I think Craig would have particularly enjoyed yours! One of his many talents was making fabulous cocktails.)
So often, it's hard to find the right words. Thank goodness for poetry - this one says exactly what I want to say. Maybe one day, please God, we will breathe the scent of the honeysuckle together.
A lovely post, Victoria. I am so sorry for your loss.
Sigh. I have lost a spouse and so has the man I am married to now....our hearts skip a beat every now and then at their remembrance....
Lovely poem.
Have courage at this time and remember the good moments.
